The Tarot has been a work in progress since the first hand painted decks produced in the mid fifteenth century. With the invention of the printing press in 1436, playing cards, Tarot included became easier to produce, leading to their wide spread use across all of Europe and now the World. The cards are made out of paper and paper wears out. The wood blocks used in the printing process were hand carved, and wore out as well. The Artists that carved them grew old and either retired or died. New Artists took their place, each lending something of themselves to the imagery of the cards. Along side the development of the imagery we find the development of myths, superstitions and diverse philosophies. Only by drilling down into the art and Artists of the Tarot, can we cut through the fog of assumption and superstition and perhaps uncover the truth about these mystifying artifacts.
